REASONS WHY SOME PEOPLE ARE STILL SINGLE- BY AUNTIE ODO

Currently, there are a number of people who are struggling to get partners. Most of these people are emotionally and physically prepared to start a relationship leading to marriage but finds it difficult to accomplish their dream marriage.

First of all, marriage is an institution that was created by God and not man. In Genesis 2:18, And the Lord God said, it is not good for a man to be alone I will make a helper suitable for him. Secondly, in Isaiah 34:16 it says” search from the book of the Lord and read: not one of these shall fail; not one shall lack her mate. For my mouth has commanded it, and He has gathered them. This means that God in His creation endorsed marriage for mankind but because we are human certain factors affect our ability to find or choose our life partners as designed by God. What are the causes or reasons behind these beautiful dreams coming into the reality of man?

Most people are still single because of one unacceptable deed called “TRIBALISM” has broken the cord of unity. Tribalism has become a major problem among many societies hindering the desires of many willing people who want to tie the knots. Tribalism has existed a long time even before the birth of Jesus Christ, during His life and after His death. In John 4:7_9 “When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her,” will you give me a drink?” The Samaritan woman said to him, you are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman how can you ask me for a drink?” For Jews do not associate with Samaritans”.

This scenario shows us that tribalism has existed even during Adam and Eve’s time. When Eve gave Adam some of the fruits to eat. Why didn’t she give it to any of the animals around but Adam? Tribalism sets in here so she gave it to her own kind who was Adam. Tribalism has caused a lot of damage and disunity among various tribes because each tribe feels more superior than the other. For instance, if a man meets a woman whom he loves, as soon as he gets to know her tribe which is a 'tag' one, he starts avoiding the lady instantly bringing down the drain what they have developed and built together. Remember when Jesus told the Samaritan woman in John 4:10- 18 Jesus revealed his identity and what she will get if she gives Him water to drink. Jesus told her about her numerous relationships and her marital status. In other words, intertribal marriages could be more of a blessing than marrying from your own tribe. Though Jesus was a Jew he brought salvation freely to the Samaritan woman without considering her tribe and she testified about the wonders of Jesus throughout Samaria. This story encourages us to avoid discrimination among tribes and see beyond the tribalism and embrace the best in that person. Never look at what people will say or family reactions just remain positive because there is power in positive thinking. Never allow tribalism to detect and influence your future plans for marriage. Furthermore, most parents become a barrier to their children’s marriage. Sometimes they dictate to them a particular tribe to marry from. Remember, Jacob had to serve for seven years for Lean though he loved Rebecca before his uncle Leban gave him Leah. Genesis 24:29-40. This is called family politics which can bring serious family war or cold war between families from generation to generation. This has delayed a lot of people from marrying at the right time.

The role of a parent is to advise and encourage their children to find true love, godly nature, and a sweet-spirited partner that binds two people together for life in marriage. However, every tribe has a history of their true nature but remember God has created us as one people and we must live at peace with all men because we are one people, one nation, and one world. Remember, it is all about love.
